I'm wondering if it's a mistake to be so specific in a policy that we
specify what position the baby will be in when it's weighed! "Nursing
discretion" is a wonderful thing, and if other nurses or docs notice that
the babies weighed prone are calmer (so it's easier to do all the poking and
procedures that usually follow), you are beginning to achieve your aim of a
friendlier place for babies. Too bad we can't weigh them in mom's arms!

....where one of my favorite moments is when a mom who has been holding and
feeding her newborn says, "how much does s/he weigh?" -- that's when we do
all that other stuff, in the room.
