I might me citing "old" studies, but the following references appear in the
Spanish version of the Womanly Art of Breastfeeding, when it says that
breastfeeding between six and 24 months during the reproductive life of a
woman, could lower the risk of breast cancer between 11 and 25% (Lyde 1989,
Newcomb 1994)

on risk of breast cancer in young women. American J Epidemiol. 1986;

and control 1995; 6: 199-208

cancer : a case control study in Japan. American J Epidemiol. 1992;

breast cancer. N England J Med 1994; 330(2):81-87

breast cancer. Epidemiology 1994; 5(3): 324-31.

fullterm pregnancy, and duration of breastfeeding with the risk of breast
cancer. J Clin. Epidemiol. 1989; 42(10): 963-73

factors of breast cancer according to menopausal status. Jpn J Cancer Res.

During the recent observance of the Day Againts Breast Cancer, I reprinted
the pages and made pink copies; sent them to all major newspapers, radio and
TV stations in Madrid, distributed them together with the Spanish
Association Against Cancer....and not a single word in the media...It really
makes you wonder about what we all know in Lactnet: would this be the case
if there was a drug on the market that could claim the same?

Lavinia Belli, LLL, IBCLC
Slightly dissapointed but not defeated, in Madrid.
