Dear Lactnetters:

Thanks to everyone who gave their comments concerning my choice of
bikinis.

My original post merely mentioned a bikini. My second post (as part of
a "warm fuzzy") was as follows:

"In another note, thought you all might like a little more info about
the bikini. As for the bikini... well, I've been realigining my
lifestyle towards less fat, less food and more exercise for the past
year and a half. This year's goal is a Victoria Secret Wonderbra
Push-up Bikini. I've never worn a bikini before, having very
well-expressed German genes. At 34, I figure it's now or never. I'm
not into anorexia, just being fit. Just sign me "Buffy" (as in buffed)."

I am very proud that I have successfully strengthened my body and
decreased my risk for diabetes, heart disease and cancer (all of which
run in my family). It was a lot of hard work. I have had numerous
positive comments from co-workers (all women) and others, many inspired
by my example. But I really don't want to get into the cultural aspects
of body form, fat, etc. (Interesting, but not necessarily breastfeeding
related. Please resist the temptation to start a thread on this).

I guess I misjudged the Lactnet audience. I had hoped you might be
proud, too.

Kathy Dettwyler brings up many very important points, and I agree with
many. However, I don't agree with this one:
"And these joys in being physically fit and capable are just about the
exact opposite of the joys described in the original post, of having men
ogle your breasts as sex objects."

I did not say this. I'm sorry that many people made this assumption.

I suppose if I had said that my goal was a Nike sport bikini, I would
have generated comments on the ethics of supporting a company that may
have questionable labor practices towards women?

Thanks for everyone's comments on the thread. Can we go on to other
issues now?
