You know I guess I am lost as to where the name calling started, I must have
missed that post. My confusion is this... just because we generalize (and
wrongly sometimes, I will admit) doesn't mean we necc. mean that for all. I
have grown thick skinned since I have been here since I seem to step in the
poop about once per week. My frustration with the medical profession at
large (and in that read ALL HCP) is that they aren't very supportive of
breastfeeding on the whole. For many of us we became CLCs because of our
bad experiences with a certain doctor or nurse. The very, very sad truth is
that people's unwillingness to learn and open their minds, kills babies
everyday. Whether that person be a family practitioner, a NICU nurse, or
even a naturopathic doc., there ARE uninformed people out there. Maybe they
don't like being generalized, just like I don't like being called an
uneducated midwife when that's far from the truth, so maybe we shouldn't
generalize, but the fact is that we need to get the word out about this. I
know that there are many people here who are not interested in hurting
people's feelings or making people feel guilty, or (insert favorite saying
here), and while I am not out to hurt people's feelings, I AM out to save
babies. Sometimes people don't like approaches taken by different people.

For those who have had bad experiences with someone that was too pushy or
not pushy enough, I just say "you may have tried bfing before, but you've
never tried it with me." Meaning that they have never had someone like me
on their support team. That being said, just because I had a bad experience
with my last ped. doesn't mean I won't use one again for things that are out
of my realm practice wise. I also had a doctor tell me once that he
wouldn't recheck my thyroid levels, if I didn't want to be so tired I should
stop nursing. Now I just looked at him and said "No, I think it's time for
a new doctor".
