RE:
<After the birth,,, as she was nursing...feeling like her toes were immersed
in boiling water...

Ros Escott mentions vasospasm as a possibility, good to check that out. My
husband and I have another possibility(backgrounds as physical therapist, and
prosthetist, in reverse order, he makes the artificial limbs). As soon as we
talked about this we both had the same thought-paresthesia. The body feels
something often very intensely and painfully that has nothing to do with what
is really happenning to the body part, as in feeling like one's toes are
being boiled when they aren't. We think it might be worth talking to an
orthopedic or obstetrical physical therapist. This mom may have pinched or
inflamed a nerve in her lumbosacral area during the birth. One of the nerves
on that side may be responsible for these sensations, and it could be
compounded by sitting in a way that compromises the nerve even more. A
physical therapist (or doctor, first, if that's how your state works) could
assess this possibilty-help with pain relief(TENS, heat, ice, whatever
works), relax and free up the area, and proper body mechanics while sitting,
standing, lifting the babe, etc. We all know how much an 8 pound baby FEELS
like they weigh when sleeping in our arms! This might be worth checking out.
Let us know how this turns out.
