I work at a hospital which is just in the starting phases of setting up a
lactation center across from the nursery. The center has been open since
8/96, and is beginning to be utilized more and more by the local physicians
and nursing staff at the hospital.

There are five LCs staffing the center, and we have a concern - we worry
that the nursing staff may begin relying so heavily on our *expertise* that
they will stop trying to do the things that they are just as capable of
teaching, i.e. positioning, latch on, feeding cues, etc., and call on us for
anything related to breastfeeding.

We want to nip this in the bud before it becomes out of control. We see our
roles as being teachers, as well as LCs.

I also work at a WIC clinic, and find that this has already started
happening to me.

Any suggestions?? Thanks so much!
