In answer to the how we learned question. My oldest is 38. I lived in
Denver when she was born and a friend told me to go to Dr. Bradley - which I
did, not knowing one obstetrician from another. The Pediatricians who saw
the babies at Porter Hospital - Fritz Meier and his partner told me to go to
La Leche League and then I wouldn't have any problems. They were only
taking new patients if you were breastfeeding because they were tired of
dealing with sick babies. Honest to God, those were their words!! This was
1970!! I really liked both of them, so I went to La Leche League, and the
rest was easy!. To me this shows the importance of getting a good
pediatrician who is supportive of breastfeeding. I was young (only about 5
at the time- HA!) and didn't know any better, so I did what the Doctors
said! Now days most doctors just say to give a bottle as they seem to
believe that formula is just fine and doesn't cause any problems. Where did
we go so wrong???
