Hello Darillyn,
I have a book published in 1936 which my grandmother gave to me. It is
called "The Country Doctor". The copyright pages states, "The story which
begins here is a novelization of the film, "The Country Doctor" first
starring vehicle for the Dionne Quintuplets." Following this fictious
account is the true story with lots of information about the real Quints and
their doctor. They were fed 30 to 60 drops of cow's milk and a mixture of
karo syrup until, " Two days later, all the nursing mothers within
travelling distance volunteered their services and a more normal diet was
procured." The quints also received orange juice and cod liver oil. The
book says that by 5 months of age they needed a gallon more milk than could
be provided by other women and, "By necessity, therefore, the infants were
weaned rapidly. " Then given diluted cow's milk which was replaced by
canned milk formula. The book has lots of pictures and includes recorded
weights.

I have owned this book for 20 years and I never read it until today. I saw
baby bottles in the photos and assumed they were given formula. Guess that
goes to show you.
