In re-reading my post this morning, I realize that I may have left the
impression that the bunching of the tongue that often occurs with
tongue-tie caused laryngomalacia, which is not true. In laryngomalacia,
the tone of the larynx is soft and collapses easily on inspiration. What
I meant to convey was something that Catherine W-G has noted, that
situations with receding chins/micrognathia and/or tongue-tie that place
the tongue further back are often associated with laryngomalacia in the
babies who are presenting with breastfeeding problems. I am not
suggesting that one is necessarily causative of the other, but rather
exacerbating.
