This is a wonderful question. I met tonight with a small group where this
exact topic came up. We had agreed that moms should never feel they have
failed in anyway. Mom just have different degrees of perfection. And just like
moms, Professionals come in different degrees- some higher than others.
Professionals, be it LC, CE, IBCLC et al all try to help moms to the best of their
ability. Some of us like to act globally, and some like to act locally. We all do
what we honestly think is best for the mom/baby. I have no doubts that we
are all in some degree wonderful to moms. How we treat each other is a
totally different story.

Collaboration runs thin. It is competitive. some people are always look for the
ulterior motive in a kind act. It is sometimes very isolating. It is sometimes just
outright disrespectful. At times, some eat their own young to ensure their
own survival. Who is going to be the first to say "stop"? We all know that
first person is going to be the sacrificial lamb. What is worse, we will stand by
and watch it happen. All of us have seen it happen everywhere: on list
serves, hospitals, business, and in our communities whatever that definition
may be.

The question I have- How do we find the voice to say stop to each other?
How do we enforce the basics of ethics, courtesy, and respect to each
other?
When are we going to realize, it is the person that doesn't look up, but looks
down and pulls someone up that will make it to the top?

Respectfully- Renee Palting Tucson, AZ
