Not too long ago I was part of an analogous victory with analogous ensuing
comment, from people who had way too much power and should have known
better. Because of my position at the time (and my utter shock) I was only
able to mutter under my breath two possible responses. 1) "As soon as you
start feeding that to your babies, we'll give you a room to use for
collecting it." 2) "So that's what you were fed as a baby? Well that
explains a lot."

Instead, we were always incredibly kind and diplomatic to them and
continually told them we were so thrilled they were supporting us.

Long story short, even their comments weren't enough to stop the process,
and 11 women used it in its first year, despite not a single word of
official endorsement from anyone in the organization (it wasn't allowed).

Some of the sweetest victories are demonstration of success. Yet it would
have been fun to see their faces if I had been able to say one of those two
things.

ps - on a more serious note, having worked in variety of settings to get
pumping space established - I wonder if the term 'lounge' might be
contributory to perceptions of it as a hanging-out kind of space. As a
former pumping mom, I never think of pumping as something I would do while
lounging, its work to make food for babies. Perhaps a change of name might
help redirect their perceptions? Maybe not, but it was my first thought
when seeing that term.
