Ms. Burke:
You have written a story containing a seriously incorrect statement which
needs to be addressed immediately.

The story is titled: State: Did agency fail to probe possible child abuse
by Marine?

In this article you have taken a line from what was originally reported in
the Fresno Bee by staff writer Tim Eberly and changed it to imply that there
is a link between breastfeeding and brain aneurisms.

According to the original report: "She lived long enough to hold her son
in her arms and breastfeed him, but then suffered a brain hemmorrage,
according to her death certificate."

You wrote:

"But he was called home three days later when his wife, Candice Quiroz,
suffered an aneurism after breast feeding the newborn. "

Unless you have documentation to show that there has been an official link
made between this mother's act of breastfeeding, and her death, your data is
not only incorrect, but irresponsible. It requires an immediate correction.
Please respond to me so that I can share your response with the worldwide
lactation support community, who are incensed about this careless reporting
on such a sensitive and important subject.

International Board Certified lactation Consultant
