Although I am lurking for more than a year, this is my first posting to the list. I
would like to post a question a mother asked me some time ago that I think is
related to this issue. The mother's doctor explained that elevated prolactin
levels during lactation can contribute to not losing weight. Since I am no
medical professional and serving only as a mother to mother support, I have
no in depth understanding of this issues. I googled it though, because I find it
quite interesting and came across a study that mentions elevated prolactin
inhibiting lipoprotein lipase activity in human white adipose tissue (my
understanding is that this enzyme is important for losing all those pounds -
please correct me if I am wrong). We have some moms with prolactinomas on
our breastfeeding forum who reported having significant issues with their
weight despite the raging milk production that goes along with their
hyperprolactinaemia and wondered if seriously elevated prolactin levels could
be related to their inability to lose weight.
So I hope someone could shed a light on the subject.
