Sorry if I sounded somewhat snarky in my post of yesterday.. I guess I
am just a bit tired of some of the negative comments about physicians
that come through in many posts. There are absolutely terrific doctors
out there who are knowledgeable about breastfeeding and supportive of
their patients. I cringe when they ask me to see one of their
patients because I know I am going to be seeing a woman with a very
difficult problem.

Some doctors have had no training about breastfeeding, some may have
had bad experiences , either personally or through experiences with
their patients, and as Ann Landers used to point out, half the doctors
graduated in the bottom half of their class. Because they got into
medical school we can assume they are intelligent and unless proved
otherwise we presume they are well-intentioned. Lets approach them as
such. It sometimes takes time to reach a good rapport but it works for
everyone, the physician, the lactation consultant, and, most important,
the mother and the baby. Dr.Mimi used an Eldridge Cleaver quote and
I'll end with a Pogo quote, " We have seen the enemy and he is us."
