Is anyone out there using the "new, improved" Human Milk Fortifier by MJ? We
have not gotten the new stuff yet, but apparently it turns the breastmilk
pink to rust colored! Isn't that a treat! This is supposed to be due to the
fact that the fortifier is iron binding. The nutrient quality is not changed,
the breastmilk not harmed, according to the rep. We all know that it is
harmed in that it is introducing cows milk protein to the baby, and it
decreases the anti-infective nature of the milk. My question is, if it binds
the iron, does that make the iron less available to the baby? I know that
some of the micronutrients found in HMF are very neccessary for these little
guys. Does anyone give these nutrients in other ways, such as meds? I can't
imagine what moms and staff are going to say about the colored breastmilk.
