Today and tomorrow I will be saying (along with a few other Lactnet IBCLCs) a final goodbye to one of my best friends. We met at a hospital 20 years ago wanting to teach new moms, crossed paths at another where we were both Lamaze and ICEA certified by that time, working toward our IBCLC. It is there we became the best of friends. She pulled me out of the deep of a 21 year marriage/divorce. We were born the same year 2 weeks apart in Michigan/Ohio. So much in common, so little time. She leaves behind an awesome legacy of moms she has helped, without her they would have never given their babies the gift of mothers' milk, a 21 yr old daughter who is strong, gorgeous, mature and the product of my friend's great love and nurturing. She will have her mother's love and guidance always. Her mother's friends who will always be just a call or email away. It is a sad couple of days but yet a celebration of her peace as she is no longer battling a cancer that wouldn't stay away. Let's all count our blessings and hug our friends and families more often.
