I do tell parents to look to the orphanages in Romania etc, for the 
effects of teaching children to be quiet and leave them alone to cry.

One mother was recently complaining in a forum, that she'd been 
velcroing her baby flat on its back, in the middle of the cot, all night 
long, since birth.  With a specially bought device for doing this.  And 
was now complaining that the baby, now much older, was old enough to 
undo the velcro strapping and KEPT MOVING ABOUT.  What was she to do?  :-(
