>>>For those of us who deal with pounds and oz., this nine week old baby has
already gained 8 pounds, averaging about one pound per week.<<<

I get a different amount when I calculate the conversion:

1 gram = .002205 pounds

3,000 grams = 6.6 pounds

I have 3 exclusively breastfed sons and each of them had gained over 6
pounds by the time they were 2 months old. (My youngest weighed 9 lbs 1 oz
at 9 days old and he weighed 16 lbs 11 oz just two months later! He also
grew 4 inches.) Thereafter, their weight gain gradually slowed down until it
leveled off after the 6 month mark. I suspect that this baby will follow
that pattern as it seems to be normal for exclusively breastfed infants. At
any rate, I don't think the pediatrician should sound the alarm yet and
certainly should not advise the mother to disrupt what appears to be a very
successful nursing relationship with her baby.
