Dear list....Just need moral support!

A mom called me this PM with the following situation. 2 month old baby in
for well baby check. Doubles birth weight...happy mom with a happy baby,
and up until now never doubted that breastfeeding was best for her baby. On
exam doctor notices a streak of blood and tells mom to eliminate cow
products from diet. No nipple bleeding or soreness present, no visable anal
fissures. Later, after receiving a positive on the occult blood test
through the lab, doctor calls mom and tells her NO breastfeeding and
advises her to switch to neocate for 2 weeks. Further testing is done
(blood and more stool samples) for allergies and infection. This was 24
hours ago.

Mom states baby is miserable since then...will not bottle feed and is
questioning advise. In the community I live in, the doctor is god and is
not to be questioned and since I am employed by the local hopital, I must
tread carefully.....after covering pros and cons mother decides to resume
breastfeeding, continue with her elimination diet and call the MD monday to
tell doctor what she is doing...is also considering a second opionion in
Milwaukee WI (closest childrens hospital). I also talked to her about
possible large supply issues (upon questioning her baby seemed to have some
of the symptoms of lactose overload at times).

Have I missed anyting?

Thanks
