Hi Fellow Lactnuts!! I have been very fortunate in getting our local CBS
affiliate to prepare for the upcoming Chicago Hope (course it helps that
two of the major anchorwomen have recently delivered and are
breastfeeding). They wish to do a two-part story. One will be
interviewing our professionals that assist breastfeeding moms
(pediatrician, myself, and our newborn clinical nurse spec.) and the second
half will take place LIVE during the show itself--they have asked me to
"furnish" 4-5 prenatal women that have already decided to breastfeed and
guage their reaction to the show (does it impact their decision, etc.).
They will also be interviewing several of our newly delivered breastfeeding
moms. I want to make sure that we discuss the "safety net" that is in
place in our community (prenatal bf classes, inpatient/outpatient lactation
services, LLL, WIC, etc.) and to be very positive about breastfeeding in
general (in other words not focusing on the show at all), but the very
first question that the health reporter asked over the phone today was what
are the actual percentages of breastfed babies that die of dehydration. I
know that normal, healthy, breastfed infants are not content to just dry up
and die at the breast--but are there any such stats.??? I will be using
all of the wonderful advice that has been posted recently, and appreciate
any more tips that you may feel pertinent. Wish me luck :)
