K Genna Watson says: Fat necrosis is a rare consequence of severe breast injury. Lactation requires cell signaling interactions between fat and glandular tissue, especially during pregnancy. Perhaps there is vascular damage also. Does mom have access to a good breast surgeon?

I'm not sure but I'll try to find out...Thanks!
