Hi Jeannine-

I work in a fairly small hospital (about 2800 births
per year), but with two other IBCLCs. We are
available 5 days a week. We get calls from "the other
side" of the hospital, and have a pump available to
take to the medical floor for moms who are in for
infections/surgery and want to pump (we do not use the
pumps from postpartum floor because of the
possibility of transferring "bugs"). We also see moms
on pediatrics who have babies in for medical problems,
as well as readmits for jaundice or assesments for
slow weight gain. We average one or two a month. If
we are asked about meds (and even if we aren't-we may
get proactive and ask ourselves) we look everything up
and leave copies at the desk for the doc.

Right now we don't have a breastfeeding policy, but
because the LCs have been around so long, and the
hospital is small enough that some of the nurses have
been on our floor and know us, they're pretty good
about referring to us.

Hope this helps-e-mail me privately if I can help with
more info-
