Dear Consultants,
I have been no mail but have some concerns and would appreciate your
guidance. I received a call today from a client that took my breastfeeding
class. She was trying to get ahold of a LC that was at the hospital where she
delivered but was unable to.
Her baby is just one month of age. She has been exclusively pumping. States
she had mastitis and abscesses. She had surgery to drain the abscess. Her
midwife called her today to tell her she found MRSA. She put her on
Clindamyacin 150mg q 6 hrs. She has not been pumping on the affected side.
She has been pumping and feeding baby on unaffected side. I would like to
guide her. Since she has been feeding the baby all along I do not see any
reason for her to stop. I did tell her that she may see thrush in the baby in a
few weeks. I know that the Clindamyacin is safe according to Dr. Hale, MMM,
book. I would like to guide her but I have not had experience in this infection.
I do have Barbara Wilson Clay's book so will do some research tonight.
Please email me at my work email since I will not be able to follow up at this
address until tomorrow evening. Please send to [log in to unmask]
Thank you in advance,
Theresa Klein RN, IBCLC, RLC
