Hi Liz:

My name Zee Ifan, I am a Lactation Consultant at Princeton Medical Center in New Jersey. A patient called two days ago wanting to wean her 8 month old baby. After probing, she informed me she really did not want to wean but has no choice because her job requires some travelling but she is not allowed to carry more than 3ozs of breastmilk on the plane because it is considered liquid. She has called several airlines & they all say the amount of breastmilk she can bring on the plane should not exceed 3ozs. I went on the TSA website & the statement reads "Medications, baby formula/ food & breasmilk are allowed in reasonable quantities exceeding 3ozs and are not required to be in the zip-top bag. Declare theses items for inspection at the checkpoint". What suggestions do you have for mom to deal with the airlines that are insisting on the 3oz rule?. Baby is exclusively breastfeeding & mom's job requires traveling & she is concern about continuously refusing to travel. She does not wish to pump & dump because her milk is very valuable. Jobs are hard to come by these days & she needs the lactation community's help. Are you familiar with any thing like this? Is anyone familiar with this issue?
