Greetings lactnetters,

I need some collective wisdom. I have a client who has had an apparent
plugged duct lower quadrant of left breast since saturday. Visible
plugged nipple pore, extreme discomfort, sore localized area, no temp,
flu symptoms, etc.. Tried all usual methods to clear plug, Dad even
tried. Had some relief from these methods but plug not totally resolved
and became painful again quickly. Due to strong family history of
breast cancer mom panicky about any lump. Wanted me to palpitate
breast. I declined to do so for obvious reasons. She decided to make
trip to OB for reassurance. I waited for call to say she was being
treated for mastitis but I was surprised to hear OB had given her a shot
of pitocin in the hip ( apparently very painful) Client reports
significant relief from plug. She says she is leaking like crazy and
still has small knot but feeling much better. When did this treatment
surface? I am worried she will get another plug since cause of first
was probably oversupply problem and underwire bra. Should I
aggressively try to get supply back down or just let her continue to
produce and leak?? How long will pitocin continue to have effect. She
reports very strong MER. I have never heard of this. Inform me
please?!?!?!

TIA ( I finally figured out what this means)
