I disagree about a mother not having a choice to breastfeed but a choice
to refuse. The act of refusal is the choice. Mammals do not have a
choice to lactate, they have a choice to allow the baby to remove milk.
If there were no choice, there would be no debate. Dogs, tigers, bears,
monkeys, humans etc... have a CHOICE to stand up and walk away from the
baby. Sure, there should be, and usually is, an instinctive biological
process to allow that baby to breast but that is still a choice. There
is no choice that lactogenesis occurs. Even prior to ABM propaganda of
today's world, there was a choice probably resulting in the death of the
infant but again, still a choice nonetheless. I looked up the word
elitist that I chose to use for the attitude that I am in disagreement
with because I was not sure it was the proper term to use. Taking a
look online Encarta North American English Dictionary of elitism:
1.Belief in concept of superiority 2.Belief in control by a small group
3.Control by small, specially qualified, or privileged group. Perfect
description. I am not attempting to be politically correct as I have
been accused but respectful for those who make choices that are not the
same as my own. Again, I just want to clarify that I have no
disagreement whatsoever with the AAP statement of exclusive breast milk
until 6mo, additional complementary age appropriate foods until l one
year and thereafter as long as mutually desired by mom and baby.Angie
