Because she was the heroine of the story!  But of course all those nasty little
tubes would be very difficult to clean thoroughly and would become a breeding
ground for bacteria.

I remember Dr. Quinn returning to work after the birth of her own child.  She
usually kept the baby in her iffice in a makeshift nursery.  However one
afternoon/night she had to go in for an emergency.  She left the baby home with
Sully and her son, expecting to be back before she needed to nurse.  The
emergency dragged out.  The baby became miserable and the men were left trying
to figure out what to do.  Quinn returned before they managed to figure it out.
It lead to a big thing about how she was going to continue doctoring and
mothering at the same time.  She didn't want to wean, but didn't want to be tied
to the baby.  She ended up investigating the "new scientific baby milk" that was
being produced in the east and decided to nurse as much as she could and leave
the formula for the men to feed the baby when she was out.  I kind of groaned.
If we know that today's ABM is deficient, I can only guess how totally inadequet
that stuff was.
