Jean,
You are so right when you say that NICUs develop their own enclaves. I
work as an LC in one in the UK. Although it is streets ahead of the one
that Teresa experienced, the attitude of the staff is the same.
When mothers want individualised care for their babies, and complain if
they don't get it, they are seen as 'difficult'. I am told that certain
events did not happen, even though I and the mother have witnessed these
events.
The staff in this unit think they are fantastic, the best NICU in the
world, and will not consider  that there is room for improvement.  I
wish I had some ideas how to improve the situation, which is probably
pretty common.
