I wanted to share this happy story.  I filled in this summer for a couple of
weeks as a community midwife for a colleague on holiday.  She works in the
same offices as the well child clinic.  Another midwife colleague came in
for her daughter's 6 month check.  This baby is LEAN.  Extremely active.
The public health nurse looked at the baby, watched her, played with her,
and then said, 'Should we bother to weigh her, do you think?  It might be a
shame to spoil this great impression by finding out her weight is under the
line on the chart.'  And she meant it!
My colleague did want to know whether the baby was gaining, and so she was
weighed.  Lean.  The PHN was extremely unconcerned, given that everything
else about this child looks like the picture of health.  It was a nice
moment.
