yeah, yeah, yeah, but i think anyone who works with mothers and babies
directly and doesn't know a lot about infant nutrition is sorely lacking in
the basic knowledge needed to practice. a friend of mine used to say, "oh, if
the pediatrician doesn't know much about breastfeeding, but knows about all
the other serious, really scary stuff, and just knows to tell women to call
LLL, that's fine with me." i disagree entirely. no one can know everything,
and no pediatrician should handle a "serious, scary case" without input from a
specialist. but a lot of doctors should know at least as much as we do about
lactation because nutrition is THE basic platform to support everything else.
