Ok Lactnetters: I need some brains to pick. Do any of you have tips to share
for positioning/latching baby with deeply notched tongue? The baby is now 6
weeks old, had frenulum clipped at 6 days--which allowed Mom's macerated
nipples to heal, although her nipples remain sore. Parents used techniques
to help baby learn to extend his tongue. Baby has maintained excellent
weight gain. Weeks 4 and 5 Mom was treated with oral Diflucan for presumed
ductal yeast (which resolved). (Baby was treated with liquid Nystatin.) It
seems no matter what position/latch is used Mom's nipples remain sore. The
*notch* cups the breast in such a way that the nipple is squeezed. Mom has
average sized, rounded breasts, very pliable breast tissue; medium sized and
normal nipples. Your expertise will be welcome--this Mom is feeling very
discouraged now that the 6 week mark has arrived and she is still
experiencing discomfort. I am feeling discouraged since my usual techniques
aren't working...
