I am currently developing a policy/procedure regarding the adoptive
nursing situation. This would refer to adoptive mothers who request to nurse
immediately after the baby is born and/or during the hospitalization.
I am especially interested in if any other hospitals have a policy in
place(what that policy is) or how they manage this situation.
Do they do any lab testing on the adoptive mother before she is allowed to
breastfeed? What is the testing and what is the time frame for results? Do
they have the adoptive and biological mothers both sign a consent
acknowledging and consenting to the breastfeeding by the adoptive mother?
Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks!
