Royce - This must be nail-biting for your client. Three months seems like a
long time to wait. Would it be at all possible for this mom to have a PCR
which detects viral nucleic acid, or to have a culture of the virus, rather
than simply waiting for a test which would only detect antibodies? These
tests would be more expensive, but perhaps possible? In the absence of
conclusive tests the mom would need to know that the baby's risk of
infection with HIV via breastmilk is increased if the mother seroconverts
during lactation. Good wishes for this poor mom!
