The cynic in me wonders what's next?
The Abbott-Prolacta Handy Home Breast Pump?
Perhaps a motorized version of the Ross super giant syringe-style manual pump, like the old Kaneson pump?
So mom can pump the milk she will mix with the Prolacta/Abbott HMF.

Abbot will now promote and distribute Prolacta products. It sure all gets
complicated now, doesn't it?

This makes sense to me - obviously Prolacta needed a sales team, and
utilizing an existing team of reps that already visit the target market,
makes lots of sense.

I also found the post on a forum for pharmaceutical reps, which confirms the
product roll-out by Abbot.

down the thread)

"December training will consist of NICU crap and to train us on how we will
incorporate Prolacta in our back"

(this forum is quite interesting - one person also notes how "important" the
NICU products are to him (not) - he says its 1.6% of his market. Someone
else talks about delivering sandwiches to the "office cows")

Here's the "official story" off the Prolacta site.

Abbott Co-Promotion Agreement Frequently Asked Questions

  _____

1. What is the co-promotion arrangement between Abbott Nutrition and
Prolacta BioscienceR?

Abbott Nutrition entered into a co-promotion agreement with Prolacta
Bioscience, a life sciences company that creates specialty formulations made
from human milk for the nutritional needs of premature and critically
infants in the Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU). This co-promotion
agreement will help to make human milk-based nutritional products more
widely available for health care professional use in the neonatal intensive
care units of hospitals across the U.S.

2. What is the value of the Abbott Nutrition/Prolacta Bioscience
co-promotion agreement to health care professionals?

This co-promotion agreement increases the ability of health care
professionals across the U.S. to access Prolacta products, thus giving them
more options in the NICU to help support growth and development of the
smallest premature infants (<1250g/2lbs 12 oz). Abbott Nutrition will use
its national reach and expertise to broaden the availability of Prolacta
Bioscience 100% human milk formulations to health care providers who care
for these fragile patients.

Prolacta Bioscience is known for its expertise in innovative manufacturing
and processing of human milk. A recent study supports providing a 100% human
milk-based diet to low-birth-weight infants <1250 g (2lbs 12 oz).1 The
addition of Prolacta formulations to Abbott Nutrition's line of specialized
nutrition products for preterm infants allows health care providers in
hospital NICUs access to a broader range of feeding solutions.

Abbott Nutrition is committed to ensuring optimal infant nutrition and has a
long history of supporting breastfeeding with health care professionals and
mothers by providing breastfeeding education materials, programs and infant
nutrition products specifically designed for human milk fortification. As
part of this commitment, Abbott Nutrition offers a wide range of specialized
infant nutrition products designed to meet the unique needs of
low-birth-weight, preterm infants treated in the NICU.
