Well how interesting. After reading the post a few days ago that stated that
the infamous "Lullaby Club" brochures were still available in at least one
store (and that in Target corporate headquarter's home town), I decided to do
a little checking here locally, rather than simply accepting Target's party
line about how we could all calm down now.

I got a letter a week ago (the same one most of you got) from Target stating
that the materials were outdates and were no longer being used. Past tense.
As in, this isnt even an issue happening in the present--what a waste of your
energy and time. There was a certain tone of condescension in the letter, i
thought. After all, what kind of radicals get upset about something that
happened in the past?

Hmmph. Today I called my local Target and spoke with a sweet young lady who
told me that she couldnt read the text from the brochure to me because she had
receieved a mysterious e-mail from corporate headquarters YESTERDAY to
"destroy" all the Lullaby Club brochures! Wow! This means, of course, that
1) they were lying to us--but really what do we expect? but more importantly
2) that our incensed reaction to the portrayal of formula feeding as having
distinct advantages and the firestorm of letters and e-mails and calls that
poured forth from our ranks is EXACTLY what changed Target's call on this
brochure. They obviously did not want us to think that we were affecting a
change in their behavior--that they were privileging the voice of proactive
breastfeeding advocacy--and yet our impact led, chronologically, to the order
by e-mail to stores to destroy the "evidence". Destroy. Think about that.

YAY! We did this, all of us, and not another mom (at least in a couple of
days) is going to receive this formula propaganda. And you better believe
that the conditioning this saga managed to effect on Target corporate will
make further anti-breastfeeding adverts less than likely.

proud of my sig line today, though I never used it in my correspondence to
target (: P)
