I'm a bit behind in posts, so forgive me if this has been posted. When you
refer to babies mastering cup feeding, it is an entirely different beast
than parents cup feeding premies and neonates. No, we are not talking
about tippy cups here, nor are we pouring milk into babies' mouths. Cups,
my personal favorite being the flexicup, are placed up to the baby's mouth
and just barely tipped so that milk is accessible to the baby as his/her
tongue is extended over the bottom lip. This technique takes patience and
practice, as well as lots of time--which is why many NICUs don't use it and
don't teach parents about it. Still, it is far better than bottle or
finger feeding (IMHO) if baby can't be at breast. : )
