Mom: "My son had trouble latching because he was tongue tied...and I
couldn't feel any pain :( so overall it was very difficult, I'd like very much
to breast feed this time, especially because I don't know if I'd have the
time to pump 8 times a day."

Pat: Feeling very dumb here, I didn't know he was TT. You can be sure
I'll be checking newborn immediately this time around. I honestly don't see
why BF won't work, as long as no TT and latch is OK.
~~~ Hello Pat and all,
I wonder if there might be some brainstorming now on things  she might be
willing or have the knowledge to do differently this time, even if  the
issues were similar: for instance, if the baby had a TT and that was  the issues,
does that mean the TT was never treated? Would she be willing  to seek
evaluation and treatment this time with this baby, if the same  issue occurred
since that might make a big difference in the outcome. If  the TT was treated
but it didn't seem to help, would mom consider  some appropriate bodywork
to help baby move into more effective  movement patterns for latching on/
feeding? Even without a pain cue,  babies who are struggling with tongue tie
issues that manifest as difficult  or impossible latching on, probably are
giving cues that mom could  learn, such as looking at the nipple shape after
feeds, or seeing that baby  is not satiated/is very frustrated after nursing
attempts and that  could also help her know what could be helpful this time
around? And to answer  the mom's question: perhaps letting her talk with
another mom or two ( who have  good information/nonjudgemtal people skills)
whose babies had TT but  then took steps she may not have taken last time, could
help her be open to  another approach this time. It looks (from this very
limited perspective) that  the TT is more the issue than the breast
reduction, but she isn't seeing  that...
Just some thoughts,
Peace,
Judy, and Thanks for all the CBI work!
