At least when doctors are saying nursing may trigger premature labor or
miscarriage, they are using some logic.  We use nipple stimulation to induce
labor.  And it works.  It does seem sensible that a nursling might bring on
labor.  We don't often get to compliment the HCP's sense and disprove
him/her on one question.  When a mother is told that the good stuff is all
gone at nine months, it is harder to praise the highly-paid source.
I LIKE handling this bad advice for my moms.  I can tell them that their
doctor is thinking logically, but reading the Breastfeeding Answer Book, we
find the research to say nursing during pregnancy does not actually cause
these concerns in the real mothers who were studied.  I have never known a
mother to wean after getting the facts.    As one mom said, "I go to him for
medical advice.  How long I nurse is FAMILY business!"     Pam Easterday
