While researching additives in breastmilk in the NICU setting, I came across
an article that talks about additives decreasing the anti-infective
properties of breastmilk. The worst offender was formula powder added to
breastmilk. The decrease of anti-infective properties was significant. My
references are at work, check Medline using anti-infecive properties and
breastmilk. If you aren't successful, e-mail me privately and I will send you
the reference. Richard Schandler also has some articles on this topic.
