Two of my children nursed until they were almost five. One is now 24 and the
other 18 and both remember breastfeeding in a warm, pleasant, non-sexual
way. Like my other children, they have a close and affectionate relationship
with me and good relationships with their peers.

It may help that they have continued to see many, many breastfeeding babies,
toddlers and older children over the years so it seems quite normal to them.
Our house is even decorated with breastfeeding posters.

When my son was nearly five he made a comment that I hope you will not find
offensive. He had seen some dancers on TV in very revealing clothing, and he
said to me "When I see those lady's breasts, it makes my penis stand up, but
when I see your breasts, it doesn't. How come?" I asked him how he felt when
he saw my breasts and he smiled and said "Happy." So I think that even at
that age he distinguished between breastfeeding breasts and breasts being
used sexually.

A year or so ago we were talking about breastfeeding, and my son said he
still remembers that sometimes he would be nursing and there wasn't any more
milk but he would keep nursing anyway just because he liked to. He said he
felt at the time that he was "tricking me" by continuing to nurse even
though he'd already had all the milk and would laugh to himself about it.

Just my experiences.
