Could it be that the pediatric specialists who work with your doctor have
never seen an exclusively breastfed baby with hydronephrosis?

ha, more like they've probably never seen a completely exclusively breastfed
baby, period. goodness knows i haven't dealt w/ one here for a cpl months
now!

so far the ob, peds urologist and pediatrician have all assured me this is
the 'standard' and 'safest' protocol in these situations. that repeat
infections can cause permanent kidney damage. i asked my pediatrician, 'but if the
baby is exclusively breastfed, isn't his whole system going to be more
anti-bacterial? and if his whole system is, isn't it possible he won't get
infections?' and she said, 'well, urine is already sterile and ppl still get kidney and
bladder infections, so i don't think what he eats will make a difference.' !

of course i'm way out of my league as far as medical knowledge here, but all
kinds of alarms are going off for me at the thought of up to 2 yrs of abx
from birth...if i hear from other parts of the world that this is not standard
protocol or medically necessary, that will be very heartening reason to dig
for further research!

thanks for your reply rachel, i am going off to bed much more hopeful now!

is kicking indignantly at the thought of unnecessary and probably harmful
interventions right at the start of his life! or maybe he's kicking about the
abysmal grand finale of 'the sopranos', not sure which...
