Reading about parents pre-chewing food for their weanlings brought back
memories. Back in the '70s I remember talking to a Finnish mother at an LLL
meeting on introducing solids. *We* talked about mini baby-food grinders and
blenders. *She* mentioned, very casually, how she always pre-chewed food
before offering it to her 6m/o and was very surprised that this was
considered odd (and even gross!) in the USA. Of course, after hearing about
this low-tech method, it made perfect sense to us.

Anybody know of other cultures (besides the Innuits and Scandanavians) who
still do this?
