Hi all
Had to share this with you as I know you'll all understand my frustration.
Mum of baby number 2, first child not breastfed, this one left hospital on day 2,
baby never latched. Now being fed a mixture of ebm and artificial milk. When I saw
baby it had a tongue-tie and just couldn't latch well at all. If it did nurse for
any length of time, mum noted very sore nipples.

My usual friendly ENT surgeon was unavailable, so mum ended up seeing a paediatrician
(not the ideal outcome), who said that there was no reason to clip the tongue tie,
that there were no bad long-term outcomes of tongue tie, and that having a tongue
tie would IMPROVE THE BABIES ABILITY TO LATCH TO THE BREAST!!! (yes, I am shouting!!)
as it would prevent the tongue moving around too much!!! He also noted in his letter
that mum was 'happy' to pump for 12 months to supply baby with ebm!!!!

I am flabbergasted. Mum was a bit dubious about continuing to breastfeed anyway, and
now the pedi has convinced her that her baby just can't feed (for unspecified reasons)
and that pumping is the only way to go.
Pedi has now gone on holidays. I will be writing him a loooong letter for his return,
but am so angry with the whole situation. I called mum back and offered a second
opinion, but she wants to 'see how things go'.
I suppose it's just not one of my good days.

Still fuming!!
