Dear Friends:
So what is an option here from a public health perspective?
Yes, the daycare worker nursed another's baby from a compassionate
motive. However, that is not part of the job description of a daycare worker.
There is no evidence yet that I know of, where HIV has been transmitted
through one bout of nursing. Yet it can be transmitted through one bout of
sexual activity.
What would be the best solution in this case? For the daycare worker and
the baby to be tested for HIV, probably more than once over a period of 6
months, given that conversion to positive status can take months or years? What
of the mother's worry? What to do about that?
     warmly,
