<<My casual observation is that slim women get slimmer and heavier women
stay the same or get heavier. Either way - it ain't fair!!>>

I agree as well. I have not seen any research about this topic but my own
experience and those of friends, and LLL moms at my Group bears this
observation out.

Personally, I am a skinny minny- 5'5" and about 120# (162 cm and 55 Kg), I
wear a size 1-2. With each pregnancy I gained 35-40# and within a week
after birth was wearing my prepregnancy jeans (much to the displeasure of my
friends). I have been nursing for 10.5 straight years, tandem nursed twice
(for 2-3 years each time) and my oldest two did not wean until they each
turned 6 years old. The weight on me falls off right away and I am STARVING
most of the time, I wake up in the middle of the night hungry. I eat bigger
portions than my husband and still lose weight. My periods do not return
until each nursling reaches their 2nd birthday.

I think those that have fast metabolism stay skinny and lose weight faster
when breastfeeding and many will not have their periods return until late.
While those with a slower metabolism gain weight faster, keep it on longer
and get their periods sooner. I'll curious to see if when my youngest (who
is 3) finally weans (not anytime soon judging by how often he still nurses),
whether I lose even more weight or if I'll stabilize at my current weight,
or even put some pounds back on. Personally I don't want to lose anymore-it
is difficult to find clothes that fit me (without resorting to the girls
section) and I don't have much of a bosom, if I lose anymore I wont have
anything left on top at all!

I imagine way back in our evolution when we were hunter/gatherers I probably
would have died during the famine while my heavier weight counterparts made
it through alive. Little consolation now, I know...

Blessings,
