Hi Everybody:
I read in yesterday's Philadelphia Inquirer about a new vaccine, being
developed by American Home Products Wyeth-Lederle division, that "will be the
first to prevent ear infections in very young children." This company is
spending a zillion dollars to develop and test a new vaccine for something
that 3/4 of babies can get for free if their mothers breastfeed? How can a
vaccine be developed that protects against bacteria, viruses, and yeast? These
are three organisms that cause ear infection. It seems to me to be such a
waste of time and energy....not to mention the long term concerns of using
vaccines so casually. Our immune systems have evolved to deal with challenges
over millions of years; there are now about 200 vaccines being considered.
Seems like people want to immunize against everything rather than raise food
without antibiotics, growth hormones, and chemicals, and keep our air, water,
and earth unpolluted. Who knows what the long term effects of all this
manipulation will be. So much easier to nurse the baby. Warmly, Nikki
