Dear Friends:

Rachel has made the comment to brighten my day:

"Must say there is no noticeable nipple phobia here. Quite different from
the US, where Mattel has laid the ground rules for what is acceptable: if it
ain't on Barbie's or Ken's anatomy, it can't be shown."

Cathy's post clarifying the issues of milk volume/storage capacity/fat
content is welcome. It will take me some time to digest it, though, being a "bear of
very little brain."

In the meantime, I will keep suggesting that women nurse when their babies
ask, that women be comfortable when they nurse, and let the baby drive the milk
supply by feeding on cue..........at least while the supply is being regulated.

My brain is digesting this article "Does breastfeeding method influence
infant weight gain" by Walshaw et al. Arch Dis Child 2007, where women at 2 weeks
postpartum had babies that gained more weight and exclusive breastfeeding
duration was longer when they breastfed 10 minutes a side every 3 hours instead of
letting the baby feed on cue.

Cathy, what say you about this article?

warmly,

Nikki Lee RN, MS, Mother of 2, IBCLC, CCE, CIMI
