It has always bugged me that so many nurses's biggest concern in postpartum parent education is "Have the parents had their bath demo yet?"  This concern was always at the top of the list of "things that must be done before discharge".  Of course, "confident (or successful or whatever word) breastfeeding was always way down the priority list. After all, mom can always give a bottle. AAARRRGGGHGHH
How many babies have been harmed by not bathing just right (other than the obvious common sense to keep them from drowning) vs how many have been compromised by not having a good start to breastfeding?
When the unit I worked at went to single room maternity care, one positive outcome was that the initial bath was the "demo" and babies going home between 24 and 48 hours were not bathed again before that.  Now to just get that initial one delayed!
