UGH indeed.  That is emotional blackmail pure and simple.  That doctor
in particular has met a very vulnerable need for his clientele and it is
quite easy for me to see how people could fall into a "I'll do anything
I must to keep him happy with me" mindset.... and that magnifies the
horrendous abuse of power it is for a MD (or anyone else!) to pull the
"If you don't do what you are told I will fire you" card.  Totally
unacceptable.
