A Pedi recently declined to clip a frenulum.
Why? She said it would cause scarring!
Gotta think on that one.
I figure this is like the "all medications pass into your milk" so a mom
should never take any theory. The thing isn't whether there will be a small scar (
and with a simple snip, it should be small!) but whether a teeny scar which
may have no bearing on future function is worth the "risk" vs. a tight frenulum
which compromises normal feeding. It's not a choice between scar or no scar,
but between the chance to improve normal feeding function and comfort with a
little scar, vs ongoing compromised function, ongoing pain, perhaps future
dental, oral, speech, feeding compromise and no scar... Well that's how my mind
sees it anyway, then again you have to start with breastfeeing as nothin' but
normal, to see that perhaps...:)
